Q1 - How did your childhood influence your work ethic and attitude towards
I’m blessed that as a child I was spoon-fed an entrepreneurial spirit at the family dinner table! My parents had their own business as manufacturing silversmiths, Dad loved and lived business and was passionate we were all involved, it was a family affair and a contagious energy and attitude. He’d say ‘fall down 5 times, then get up 6! It was a fun and powerful energy to be surrounded by.
My sister and I were influenced to work hard and turn our dreams into our reality.
Things were possible and the family attitude was ‘can do’. Our parents made us feel
everything was possible, as together they had smashed their own comfort zones and
turned impossible into possible many times. Career wise, I had three loves –
business, beauty and diamonds – and I’m happy to say I’ve made my career
from all three because of their guidance! [Laughing]
Q2 - What do you believe the principles of a successful business are today?
1. Choose a business you LOVE
2. Control your thoughts – it all starts here and Success is an inside job. Seizeall opportunities and if they aren’t there, then GO OUT and get them!
3. Don’t aim to be great, aim to be memorable
4. Embrace a 360% approach and keep ahead of the game in your development
and knowledge in ALL area’s not just 1 or 2.
5. TEAM. No one person can play a symphony, it takes the whole orchestra.
Collaborate, Listen, show empathy. Travel together.
6. Think BIG or stay in Bed! (have belief and big vision and goals)
Q3 - Looking back, what was your best business decision?
My most empowering and life changing business decision was to write my book, The
Mind Makeover, because this has given me a global stage to empower 1000’s of
people in many countries with the road map of how to take charge of their greatest
single asset, in Life and in Business, their MINDS and Thoughts. This is where ALL
Q4 - Who has influenced you the most through your career?
My Father, Joe Lowe.
Q5 - What was your most difficult / worst business decision?
I don’t view a decision as the most difficult or worst, as in the book I share, Failure is
not an outcome, it’s an attitude. If we review and learn from something that did not
go to plan, we have achieved a result (not to do it that way again!). We are motivated
by 2 triggers to take action and these are: Inspiration and Desperation and trust me I
have been far more driven to achieve from a state of Desperation. (I will not miss an
opportunity like X again’) than when I am inspired. Learn to used both emotions to
Q6 - What would you say was the single most advantageous character trait for
Learn how to take charge of your attitude and thoughts. Control your inner voice and
make it your biggest supporter (to nurture, support and guide you) not a critic who
knocks you down. It’s hard to beat the enemy when you have given it an office inside
your own head.
Q7 - What happens when you’re stressed or overwhelmed?
I know the early signs and I STOP, breath, remove myself from the situation for 5
minutes and I focus on my gratitude list, what’s right in my world. It’s the quickest
mood changer I know. I quickly decide what is the no.1 most important task and I
only focus on that. Exercises in the book show us all how to achieve this. I also have
a saying which makes me laugh ‘Sharron will this X bother you in 3 months time?
The answer is always ‘No’ and then I tell myself…So why wait, let it not bother you
Q8 - How do you invest in your own wellbeing. How do you look after yourself?
I teach and believe fully in the Mind Body connection. Our thoughts reflect our
outcomes so I put as much attention in taking care of my Mind as I do my body with
daily rituals. Every morning I trampoline for 35 mins (laughing) to a DVD. It makes
me feel happy and it kicks in tons of endorphins and it makes me smile as its such
fun. I rarely miss a day and haven’t for the past 10 years. Every morning I go through
Mind exercises in the book to build my positivity and gratitude. As they say,
appreciate all you have now and you will attract an abundance of more positive
things to you. Many people miss success, not because they never had it but because
they did not stop and appreciate it when they did.
Q9 - If you could change one thing about the spa and wellness industry what would it be?
To empower all therapists with greater ‘self-care’ and the Mind knowledge to nurture
themselves as much as they do their clients. My great friend Tracey Woodward CEO
Aromatherapy Associates often says ‘ self-care is health care’. As they say on a
plane, put your own mask on first!
However passionate you are you cannot work and be exceptional and memorable on
an empty energy battery (try using a phone with no charge’).
